Arthur J Smith entered a civil service career affter the NAVY and became a NYS Corrections officer at ATTICA. He was a hostage during the riot. He was beaten and later freed after a week long siege in 1971. He is shown on several of the videos which appear on COURT TV & the HISTORY CHANNEL.
